Why Choose Us

What sets Red Robin Learning apart

Our strongest subject area

English is the most popular subject on our platform. Our tutors have extensive experience with every major set text and exam board. We know exactly where students lose marks and how to fix it.

Both Language and Literature

Many students struggle with one more than the other. We assess which paper needs more attention and balance our sessions accordingly, rather than treating them as entirely separate subjects.

Exam board specific

AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and WJEC all have different question formats and mark schemes. We tailor our teaching to your child's specific exam board so every minute of practice is relevant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before getting started.

What is the difference between English Language and Literature?
Language focuses on reading unseen texts and writing creatively or persuasively. Literature focuses on set texts — novels, plays, and poetry that your child studies in class. Both are separate GCSEs and most students sit both. We cover both in our sessions.
My child is predicted a Grade 4. Can they reach a 6 or 7?
A two-grade improvement is realistic with consistent weekly tutoring over two to three terms. The key is identifying exactly which skills are holding your child back. Often it is essay structure or analysis depth rather than knowledge, and these are very teachable.
Which exam boards do you cover?
We cover AQA (the most common), Edexcel, OCR, and WJEC. Each board has different set texts and question formats. Tell us your child's exam board when you book and we will match them with a tutor experienced in that specification.
How do you help with the unseen texts in Language papers?
We teach a systematic approach: how to annotate quickly, identify key techniques, and structure responses that directly answer the question. Your child practises with past paper extracts every session so the method becomes second nature before the exam.
When should we start GCSE English tutoring?
Ideally at the start of Year 10, which gives two full years to build skills. Starting in Year 11 is still worthwhile — we can focus on the highest-impact areas and exam technique. Even a term of targeted work before exams makes a difference.
