Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before getting started.

Is Year 7 too early to start English tutoring?
Not at all. Year 7 is actually an ideal time to start. Your child is adjusting to secondary school expectations, and building strong reading and writing habits now prevents gaps from widening. Many of our most successful GCSE students started with us in Year 7.
How does online English tutoring work?
Sessions run via Google Meet with screen sharing. Your child and their tutor work through texts, writing exercises, and analysis together in real time. We use shared documents so your child can see their tutor modelling good writing technique.
Do you follow a specific exam board at KS3?
Most schools do not follow a specific exam board at KS3, so we focus on building the core skills — comprehension, analysis, and writing — that apply across all boards. If your child's school uses a particular curriculum or text list, we can align with that.
My child finds reading boring. Can you help?
We hear this a lot. Our tutors are skilled at finding texts that match your child's interests — whether that is sport, mystery, science fiction, or graphic novels. Once your child sees that reading can be engaging, the analytical skills follow naturally.
How quickly will I see improvement?
Most parents notice improved confidence within four to six weeks. Measurable grade improvements typically take a term of consistent weekly sessions. We track progress through our session reports so you can see exactly where your child is developing.
