Why tutor with Red Robin Learning
We built the platform we'd want to tutor on. Less admin, more teaching, fair pay.
Flexible hours
Set your own availability. Tutor evenings, weekends, daytime — whatever fits your life. We work around your calendar, not the other way round.
Competitive pay
Earn £13–£15 per hour depending on subject, level, qualifications, and experience. Paid monthly by direct bank transfer. No platform or admin fees taken out of your hourly rate.
Work from home
100% online. No commute, no travel costs. All you need is a laptop, a quiet space, and a stable internet connection.
AI-powered lesson reports
Our system writes your post-session reports for you. You teach the lesson — Red Robin AI drafts a parent-ready report you review and send. Most tutors save 3–5 hours of admin a week.
Dedicated support team
Real humans on the other end. Onboarding help, scheduling support, parent comms, and quick answers when you need them. You're never on your own.
Steady stream of students
We handle student matching, marketing, and enquiry follow-up. You focus on teaching. Most tutors fill 8–15 weekly hours within their first month.
What we look for
We're selective about who we work with so families get a consistently great experience.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one — we'll guide you through it)
- Strong subject knowledge — typically a degree in your tutoring subject, QTS, or equivalent professional experience
- Genuine passion for teaching and helping young people aged 8–18 succeed
- Reliable broadband connection and a quiet, well-lit space for video lessons
- Confident using video conferencing tools (Google Meet) and a digital whiteboard
- Right to work in the UK and a UK bank account for monthly payments (you'll work as a self-employed contractor)

What our tutors say
From people who tutor with us right now.
“I came across Red Robin while looking for online tutor jobs and I'm so glad I did. The AI report system saves me hours every week and the support team genuinely cares. I've never had a tutoring role this well-organised.”
“I tutor around my PGCE schedule and the flexibility is brilliant. Students arrive prepped, parents get clear reports, and I'm paid on time every month. It's the most professional online tutoring company I've worked for.”
“After leaving the classroom I wanted to keep teaching without the admin. Red Robin handles all the parent comms and report-writing — I just teach. I have 12 regular students and I love it.”
Tutor questions, answered
Everything you'd want to know before applying.
How much do online tutors earn at Red Robin Learning?
Tutors at Red Robin Learning typically earn between £13 and £15 per hour, depending on subject, level, qualifications, and experience. Our rates are set above the UK National Living Wage. The exact rate is agreed with you when you join and reviewed as you build a track record with us. Pay is monthly by direct bank transfer and you keep 100% of your stated hourly rate — there are no platform or admin fees deducted.
Do I need teaching experience to become an online tutor?
Formal teaching experience is helpful but not always required. We hire qualified teachers, PGCE students, recent graduates with strong subject knowledge, and experienced private tutors. What matters most is deep subject expertise (typically degree-level), the ability to explain concepts clearly, and genuine warmth with young people. We assess all of this in the interview.
What subjects can I tutor?
We have ongoing demand for English, Maths, and Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) at GCSE and A-Level, plus 11+ preparation (English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning) and Key Stage 2 and 3 support. We also occasionally need tutors for History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages, Computer Science, and Economics. List the subjects, levels, and exam boards you tutor in your application.
How are sessions conducted?
All sessions are 1-to-1 online via Google Meet, supplemented by an interactive digital whiteboard and shared documents for working through problems together. Most sessions run 60 minutes weekly. You'll have access to our platform for scheduling, student notes, past papers, and the AI report system. Sessions are scheduled at times that work for you and the family.
What technology do I need to tutor online?
You'll need a reliable laptop or desktop computer, a stable broadband connection (we recommend at least 25 Mbps download), a working webcam and microphone (a USB headset gives the best audio), and a quiet, well-lit space for lessons. A graphics tablet or iPad with an Apple Pencil is strongly recommended for Maths and Science tutors. We provide all the software, scheduling, and reporting tools.
How many hours can I tutor each week?
It's entirely up to you. Some tutors take 4–6 hours a week alongside other work; others build up to 20+ hours and tutor full-time. You set your own availability and we match students to your schedule. Most new tutors fill 8–15 weekly hours within their first month.
When and how am I paid?
We pay tutors monthly by direct bank transfer to a UK account. Tutors at Red Robin are self-employed contractors rather than company employees, so we don't issue formal payslips — instead you'll receive a clear monthly statement listing the sessions you delivered and the total payment. Sessions are tracked automatically via our platform, so there are no manual timesheets to chase, and as a self-employed tutor you're responsible for declaring your earnings to HMRC.
Is there an application fee or contract lock-in?
No. There is no application fee, no joining fee, and no minimum-hours contract. You're a self-employed tutor working with us — you can scale up, scale down, or step away at any time with reasonable notice to your students.
